feature article pic 1

This is the photo i chose for the feature article, because it is a full length shot and the pose looks effective.

contents pic

This is the photo i used for the contents page, as it is a small, friendly picture that makes the reader want to read on but doesn't give away any information about the article.

Cover Pic

This is the photo I chose to use for my cover, this is the best of all the pictures as it shows attitude with the model not giving the reader eye contact. I chose to cut the background out as it was not appropriate.

Feedback 22/4/09

Good Sam – you now need to scan and upload your mood board and rough sketches of final pages, props and costume lists needed and choice of locations for your magazine and comment on them. Also upload your photographs taken and comment on why you chose the ones you did for your pages – how did the shoot go? Etc… Remember to keep blogging on your progress!

Photos

Took photos for the front cover this week and started editing them for my magazine. Found photo shop alot easier to use after practising with my pre-lim task.

A good prelim task Sam!
You need to do more research to get the marks! See the previous post!
You also need the results of your questionnaire on here and some analysis of these.
Keep blogging each week - put your progress on here.
Also you now need to scan and upload your mood board and rough plans for your pages.

Evaluation

For my preliminary task i designed the cover and contents page of a college magazine. I think that the picture for the front cover was good but i think i will use a longer shot next time. I also think that choosing the library for a background gave a realistic effect. The most difficult thing was trying to position the text around the picture as you have to get enough information on but there is not a lot of space for it. I also think my title was too small and my contents page looks too plain, these are things i will change for my next task.
From this task i have learnt how to use photo shop and in design more effectively and how to upload onto my blog.

Feedback - 10/3/09

Good Sam but you need a little more detail in this research...
- include an age range for your target audience
- Explain your USP in a little more detail - not sure what you mean here!
- Include similar products!
- You need to prove the sucess of these magazines - long running? audience/circulation figures etc...

After this you need to upload a cover, contents page and double page spread of a music magazine and analyse them in relation to the conventions of maagazines - follows them or deviates from them (same but different?) Also how they are targeting their audience? Who is the target audience? (you can find these online or we can scan these in.)

Research

Completed reader profile and questionnaire.
Will get questionnaire filled in during the week as need to ask 8-12 year olds so it cant be done in college.

Photo shop

Used photo shop for the first time, made a mock up magazine front cover. Found the photo shop application quite hard to use at first but it got easier once i knew what all the icons were.

1st entry

The project I have chosen is a music magazine. I have chosen this option because i hope to do script-writing at university and this links in with that.
My initial thoughts and ideas for the project:
  • Genre - pop.
  • Target audience - pre-teen girls
  • Unique selling point - no music magazines for this age group exist anymore.
  • Similar products - Smash hits! Which had great success and ran from 1978-2006
  • I think my product will be successful because young girls are very interested in pop music and other magazines of this genre have been successful.
